How To Get Motivated To Do Your Household Chores

Have you ever wanted to get a really clean and tidy house but have no motivation to get up of your bed and start checking off the task list? Here are some tips to allow you to bypass the part of your brain that wants to procrastinate.

1. Start Small

Start off with one surface like your kitchen’s countertop or your study table. Start cleaning and tidying it. Don’t look at the bigger surfaces like the floor of your house or your entire room. You’re doing something, and that’s the first step. You don’t even have to feel guilty about it because you’re taking baby steps.

2. Commit to The Same Surface For 3 Days

Focus your efforts on the same surface to form a habit. Clean it, tidy it, polish it again and again for 3 days. The point is to start a routine and you’ll feel satisfied at how neat it will look and can’t help but notice how the rest of the house looks. Then, you’ll start thinking about cleaning it.

3. Reward Yourself

Treat yourself to a guilty pleasure of yours like ice-cream because you deserve recognition for completing a task!

4. Expand Your Reach

Once you’ve feel the sense of accomplishment, you will be more motivated to keep other areas clean. Now, you should start your household chores in a small yet manageable chunk. Like cleaning your kitchen countertop, the dining table and kitchen sink. Try to do it in less than an hour and repeat this routine for a few days. Resist the temptation of cleaning up the entire area at this point as you may feel overwhelmed and not wanting to clean up the next time. After a few days, you can move on to cleaning up another few objects and repeat.

5. Expanding More

Once you’ve get the hang of it, expand your cleaning efforts by adding a few more tasks at one time but still try to keep the duration less than 2 hours a day or you can split the few tasks at different time intervals. Reward yourself in between and get motivated again. The more consistent you are in cleaning, the less time you’ll spend the next time when cleaning up.

When you think that your house is in a clean and tidy state that you’re happy with, you should invite your friends and family over for validation and to fish some praises. Once you get the recognition, you will feel really accomplished and all your hard work is worth the effort. Then, you’ll feel really motivated to maintain the cleanliness of your home.
